Sara Quaggio is a postdoctoral researcher specialising in the archaeology of Western Asia, with a particular focus on the 3rd millennium BCE. She has over a decade of international field experience at major archaeological sites across the Middle East and beyond.
In addition to excavations conducted in Italy, since 2016 she has been actively involved in fieldwork in Iraq, first at the site of Nigin/Zurghul and then at ancient Lagash (al-Hiba), where she has held the role of area supervisor and ceramics specialist within long-standing Italian and American research projects. Her field experience also includes Oman and Saudi Arabia, where she contributed to the direction of extensive surveys and excavations in the Wadi Sfar and Wadi Hanifa regions and at Al Tikha, as well as projects in Turkey (Karkemish) and, since 2024, in Pakistan (Banbhore), where she works as an archaeometallurgist.
Her research focuses on ceramic analysis and archaeometallurgy, with particular emphasis on ceramic typologies and metal artifacts of the 3rd millennium BCE. She is especially interested in reconstructing the long-distance exchange networks that connected Mesopotamia, Magan, and the Arabian Peninsula.
